Ari's Armoire

Ariana's armoire makeover was thanks in part to my no-longer-love of armoires. Fo' real. Here's the quick and dirty downlow: I purchased a matchy-matchy bedroom set about eight years ago, since then I no longer dig matchy-matchy furniture and I no longer dig armoires. I originally used the armoire as a TV cabinet when it lived in my bedroom and when relocating it to Ari's bedroom I planned to use it for the same purpose, except this time I wanted to make it look less armoire-y, read: heavy looking, by 1. taking the doors off and 2. painting it.

Try to look past the next few terrible iPhone photos and notice how dark and heavy it looks before?

Simply removing both doors lightened it up a lot!

After stripping it with liquid deglosser...

...I painted the majority of it white. Then I added a pop of color in the form of the same pink I used on her dresser makeover.

Ariana loves pink but I didn't want her furniture to slap you in the face with its pinkness so for the back of the armoire I covered it in burlap.

I love the texture it brings to the piece and it breaks up all the pink. I went with yellow for the shelf because yellow is an accent color in her room and I thought it would be a fun, unexpected way to add the color to the armoire.

After patiently waiting to find the same drawer pulls I used on her dresser (they were out of stock when I initially went back for more), I scooped them up and completed the look.

Are you ready to see the whole thing?

Isn't the difference amazing? And I'm so happy that I was able to repurpose this piece of furniture that I was thisclose to getting rid of. And here is a side-by-side for easy comparison of the before and after.

Now I just need to upgrade her 400 year old television with a little flat screen, but that's not a priority so it won't happen anytime soon.

And I should add that I decorated the armoire with super cute bookends I found at Target. And this cute seashell box I scored at Marshall's, it was the perfect color and it allows Ari a cute way to display all the shells she brings home every time we go to the beach.

When we move in a few weeks my first order of business is to finally make her headboard I've been dreaming of for months, so stay tuned!
