Call me cheap - my wing girl does so ya'll may as well too. It's no secret that I go weak in the knees for a good deal. And if something is free and I see potential in it - fuggedaboutit! So when I saw this being tossed out, I jumped at the chance to snag it up - one man's trash, right?!
It's too big to be called a nightstand, and too little to refer to it as a dresser, so I don't know what it technically is, I've begun referring to it as "ya'lls cabinet" (when speaking to the brood) or "the kids' cabinet" (when talking to someone else), you'll see why in a minute.
I immediately knew where I wanted it to go - on a little empty spot on the wall between the living and dining areas. But before I could do that I wanted to spruce it up. I sanded the top and sides, but see how the front two doors look like shutters and have all those slats? Yeah, those weren't gonna sand easily so I used deglosser and...WaBAAAAAAM! It was ready to prime. After priming was painting, hardware included, I ORB'd those. Then I sanded it to give it an old, roughed up look, which is the style I've been diggin for a while and have distressed several pieces in our house already and I looooooove them all. And tada!
It fits perfectly in the spot I envisioned it going. And isn't it cute right next to the tv console I made from an old dresser? I'm going for a beachy, cottagy feel in the living room and this piece fits right into that. Now for why I refer to it as "the kids' cabinet"...because the kids' plethora of craft stuff if corralled in here.
It' mainly play-doh paraphernalia, we could open our own play-doh store with all the sets we have, no joke. There's also things the kids' need when they color or do homework at the dining table. And since it's for the kids I thought I'd get whimsy with the decor on top.
Super cute.
Happy Humpy day!!!!!!!!!!
